I have been busy, but I have not forgotten about Atlasstic

To say that I have been busy is a bit of an understatement. As the Atlassian Platform Owner at Sinch my calendar is filled to the brim with meetings while also setting up processes and building amazing new things. It is amazing and I love it wholeheartedly, but it also takes up a little too much time as I work all hours of the day and more often than not on weekends as well. Not because I have to, but because I want to. That being said though, I have not forgotten about Atlasstic or the You

Building a support portal and setting up the news

I have been a bit silent due to work as the new Atlassian Platform Owner at Sinch, which is very rewarding yet time-consuming initially. I have also learned quite a bit about JSM and especially how to take advantage of the apps Refined and ProForma (Forms in Cloud). These learnings I will now take advantage of as I dive into the phase of setting up support for Atlasstic and JWSE as two separate portals sharing the same JSM project. I am also going to set up the News section so it becomes a littl

Aligning colors to make sense of things

As much as I love Invision Community as a platform, it does have a few things that I feel need a bit of structure. One such area are colors because Invision Community could use a more structured way to manage colors in their variables. So I am mapping out all the variables in Figma in an attempt to get them a bit more under control. In Invision Community there are around 100 color variables and they are split over components rather than as color hues. This means that there is a lot of over

Dark Mode for Atlasstic is here

Last night I added a little toggle feature to switch to Dark Mode on Atlasstic.com. It is not perfect, but it works on desktop so far and I am working on the Mobile adaptation and adjusting the styles. So now you can browse your favorite videos and read the latest articles in darkness 😉 Adding dark mode is something I have considered for a while, but last night when I was working on the PlayBooks it was so bright, so I decided to take the time to add it. Fortunately it is not very hard to d

New Social media accounts for Atlasstic

This weekend, I have created new social media accounts for Atlasstic. I am doing this for several reasons, but the primary reason is that I want to separate Atlasstic from myself and make it super focused on Atlassian content. While I will focus on Twitter and YouTube primarily next year, I also created a Facebook and LinkedIn account as well. Just to be prepared for the future. Creating new social accounts can be fun, especially when you get to build such focused accounts like for Atlassti

Setting up the design system

As I prepare for the next step in my life, I am also taking some time to dig into the other creative side to start setting up a design system. This will help me do mockups for content before I build it. It will also allow me to be more consistent with content as I reuse components rather than inventing them from scratch every time. As I will share some aspects with the Prisma methodology design as part of the Flexible Atlassian Setup, there will be some overlap. This will speed things up for whe

Taking a small break to refocus

Things have been a bit slow here for a while, and that is because I am in the middle of a rather big change in my life. This change is a positive one, but it is consuming a lot of energy at the moment to get all things in place. So I am taking a small break to refocus while these changes take place. I am not at full stop, just more in a planning mode right now to make sure I hit 2023 running. This weekend, I made a decision that is a bit scary since it will end an almost 17-year-long realit

IPS Community Suite 4.7.4 update

A new update has been release for IPS Community Suite and in this release we got three new features and a bunch of bug fixes. This release also had a change in the minimum requirement for PHP, which is now PHP 8.0. The perhaps most noticeable change for the community is the addition of new online event services where events now have support for TikTok, Twitch, Vimeo and SpotMe online events.   IPS Community Suite 4.7.4 Released 11/02/2022 Key Changes

Inviting Companies to help define the Companies and Products databases

Next week, I will reach out to some companies and invite them to collaborate on making the Companies and Products databases the best they can be. This invitation will be to a specific group here on the website, where we will discuss together what we should build to provide the best possible worth for the companies. While I of course can build the databases on my own, I will most likely miss specific needs that the companies have to make the most of the databases. I am looking a lot at the A

Selecting apps for Atlasstic base setup

Today I have started to add the apps I will use for Atlasstic.com. This is the base setup of apps that I will make videos on later and I have selected apps that I have used before, but also some new ones I have not tried as much yet. Each of the apps will get a series of videos where I will focus on how they fit into the Prisma Methodology. QMetry for Jira My first choice for testing apps is QMetry and I have done many sessions on how to best use QMetry in both Server/DC and Cloud setu

Upgrading my Atlassian products for public access.

After considering my options for a while, I decided to take the leap and upgrade my Atlassian licenses. I now have a Confluence standard license and a Jira Software premium license. It is not cheap, even with a single user, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I am still investigating my options when it comes to the other products. One of the big reasons for upgrading for me is the ability to make certain aspects public. I find this to be important, especially if I am going to u

Let's talk about Playbooks

One of the key features on Atlasstic.com are the Playbooks. The idea behind these are to make sort of digital guidebooks for everything you can imagine doing in the Atlassian products, and the Atlassian apps eventually. Not only will this require quite a lot of work putting the guides together, but it also means I need to design the templates accordingly to provide a scalable structure that is also reusable. The concept of the playbooks is quite simple and you don't really need a lot of fan

Making progress on design, now to plan databases...

With the design making progress, it is time to start planning the databases. There are six databases, but I think Videos and Articles are good enough for now, so I will focus on People, Companies and Products. The Playbooks will be a huge undertaking, but unlike the other three databases, I don't think the templating will be very extensive. People This will be a database of Atlassian profiles, where the aim is to allow people to show off their Atlassian skills and hopefully land then j

Setting up Atlassian products for Atlasstic.com

If you are going to make a community revolving the Atlassian products, then of course you will have to use the products as well. So today I have set up a suite of them that I will use for the website. I will configure them more later when I have more time after I have built the website, but for now they are registered and setup at least. For support issues, I am using Jira Service Management to collect information from users. I also connect Confluence for this to act as a knowledge base. I

Defining tonality and breaking out from the standard design

The first creative addition has been added to the website, and with it comes a few decision to be made. As the creative direction now moved towards a more open and light design, it clashes a bit with the blocky standard design of Invision Community. This means it is time to decide how to proceed with the tonality of this site and when in time a possible redirection should be make. Up until now, the design of Atlasstic has been borrowing much of the design elements from JWSE. As the design w

Playing with hero designs

At the moment, I am playing around with designs for different content blocks I will build, like the hero banners. I am trying out a soft gray base with a pink to orange gradient that is rather common right now. It is mostly playing around with shapes and sizes to see what feels good, so I can start building from that. This website is a bit different, as I started without any real design in mind, and I am just trying things out right now to see what sticks. Then I can start making a proper d

New Events functionality coming soon

IPS, the company behind Invision Community that we use for this community, just announced an update to the Calendar app. The app will be renamed to Events, which is perfect (and saves me time from renaming all language bits) and it will add new templates as well as integrate with several streaming services. This will make events even more interesting, especially for the different ACE events that are held locally. Virtual events will not have a quick link, which will be great for members tha

Databases are in place (sort of), so now I have to work on structure

The databases are pretty much in place, even if I will be working on the templates for quite some time to fine tune and add more features. This means that I need to start working on structure and set an information architecture, so the content makes sense as a whole. This might seem simple enough, but as with all architecture, it is not so easy as it first looks.  So I will need to consider what information goes where so we don't duplicate information areas (WET) and so we have areas that m

Videos done, time for Articles

Yesterday I completed the first iteration of the Videos database. Today I will make some adjustments for the Articles database, which will be used for most of the other databases. Once that is done, then it is time to flesh out the databases with the fields and the templates for what data will flow between the databases. With Videos in place (still need to iron out some bugs), I feel that I can move forward with the rest of the databases. I will start with Articles, since that will be the n

Creating new templates from scratch is slower, but more satisfying

As I already have the basic templates I want for Atlasstic, I am not going to use them. The reason for that is that the old templates are built in a more exploratory way with a lot of custom CSS. I want to build this again now using standard CSS classes, which is both a challenge and a bit frustrating. The end result will be worth it though, I think. Invision Community is great in many ways, but it also has a few things that are really, really frustrating. One of those is that they don't re

Building a new site

After a period of thinking, I decided to start a new website by breaking off a part of my personal site. This new website is going to become a much more focused endeavor, and I have big plans for it. These plans are both long term and short term. In the short term, I need to rebuild and transfer what I already have on my personal site. As I have been working with Atlassian since 2012 it has been a tool set I have been using every day since and one that I spend a lot of time training people
