Building a new site

After a period of thinking, I decided to start a new website by breaking off a part of my personal site. This new website is going to become a much more focused endeavor, and I have big plans for it. These plans are both long term and short term. In the short term, I need to rebuild and transfer what I already have on my personal site.

As I have been working with Atlassian since 2012 it has been a tool set I have been using every day since and one that I spend a lot of time training people in using. As such, it has been natural to write about what I have learned and my thoughts about Atlassian. This is something that I have lately started to use YouTube for, but it still feels a bit strange so I need to get over that.

The first step here on Atlasstic is to set up the databases and create new templates for them. There are a few of them that needs to be added:

  • Videos
  • Articles
  • People
  • Products
  • Companies
  • Countries (flags for people and companies)
  • Playbook: Jira Software Cloud
  • Playbook: Confluence Cloud
  • Playbook: The Flexible Atlassian Setup

The Videos database will be similar to the database I have on my personal website, and the idea is to make this a lot more focused around the Atlassian ecosystem. There are many videos out there, but they are pretty spread out and I want to connect each video to a product or app to make it easier to find the videos you are looking for.

Articles will be just that, a set of articles related to Atlassian that anyone can submit and here I will make sure that every article can be connected to companies, articles, people and of course have good ways to promote the authors. It will also have things like creative commons licensing and image attribution and later on I will probably add review capabilities, or create a separate review database that can be connected to Articles.

People will be a new database, but one that has been on my mind for a few years. The idea is to allow members to register and present themselves as Atlassian experts. Things like certifications, awards, skill sets focused on Atlassian products and more will be added. I will also tie this to countries and probably tie in things like personality types and if the person is looking for work. In the future I might build a database for assignments and work, so then this might tie into that....

Products will be a database for each Atlassian product and of course also all apps. It will connect to the other databases so you can see all videos, people and articles related to it. The same will be done for Companies, which we will connect to countries as well.

The Playbooks will be databases with guidelines and tutorials related to different topics. Here I will start with the three I already have on my personal website, which are the Jira Software Cloud Playbook, the Confluence Cloud Playbook and a standard for setting up Jira and Confluence that I have created and rolled out to many of my clients.

I have a lot of work to do, but I look forward to it!
